Alvin Dante Yarbrough, a name synonymous with creativity and self-motivation. Born into a family already saturated with God-given talents and abilities, Dante was not one to quickly acknowledge his gift. As a youth Dante constantly showed signs of artistic brilliance by dazzling teachers and students in every grade level. Strangely, for Dante, the awards and accolades that everyone expected for him did not immediately roll in. His first major outside influence came from a book entitled "Andrews Meadow". This book, loaded with pen and ink drawings, brought on a divine interest in the arts. Soon after his interest developed, Dante was introduced to his extended family from his father's previous marriage, where he would meet a brother already blooming as an artist.
Just knowing that he had an older brother was a major motivator for Dante, but after witnessing some of his brother's realistic renderings, Jonathan Yarbrough quickly became Dante's most powerful artistic influence. Even to this day, Dante insists that Jonathan is one of the most talented artists he's ever known. Surprisingly Dante received no formal art training after 5th grade up until college. It was not until his freshman year at Morris Brown College, that Dante began to redefine himself as well as his abilities as an artist.
After a 1 year stay there he would eventually transfer to neighboring CAU where he earned his BFA. Yet even through 4 years of college education Yarbrough insists that experience was his best teacher. While in school he would use the knowledge he was absorbing to perform projects that would help fund his own education. Murals on the gymnasium floors & walls of both CAU and Atlanta Metropolitan, and even the logo for McClardy Coach Lines, one of the largest and most successful tour bus companies in the Southeast, are just a few to name. With his love of God first, love of family second and finally his love of creativity, Dante Yarbrough is truly one of the most exciting and vibrant souls one could ever hope to encounter. If art really imitates life, you are cordially invited to come experience the colorful life and times of a totally unique artist on a roller coaster ride of acrylics and pastels never before experienced.
